Rent a ‘chipped’ remote to upgrade SONY PANASONIC PIONEER For the latest generation of Sony, Panasonic and Pioneer DVD players, our 'Self Service' option provides a quick and easy way to make your player multi-region using a specially 'chipped remote'. These players cannot be hacked using the manufacturers supplied handset, but our Self Service remotes have been coded to unlock them in seconds by exploiting the manufacturers own internal IR service frequencies. The cost of purchasing one of our Self Service remotes is £19.99 (including standard delivery). Self Service remotes are always in stock, orders placed before 3.00pm Mon-Fri will be dispatched the same day. When we began modifying DVD players for multi-region playback back in the late 1990’s almost every player needed to have a specially programmed chip soldered internally to perform the upgrade. Over the years, cheaper players began to emerge from China with ‘handset hacks’ to make them multi-region. We made a policy decision to not take these ‘hackable’ players into our workshop because we felt it would be unfair to charge for something which the customer could do themselves. We also took the decision not to answer requests for free hacking advice due to the obvious limited viability of making staff available to handle the extra workload. In recent years, more ‘hackable’ players have come onto the market and our policy remains the same.

The DVD players listed on our website can’t be hacked with their own remotes. We sell equipment which will allow you to perform the upgrade at home. As a rough guide, if you have a DVD player manufactured by Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, JVC, Denon or an older Toshiba then it cannot be hacked with it’s own handset and you need to use our mail order service.
